Timothy C. Steininger, 41, of Wilroads Gardens, Kan., was born Sept. 26, 1963, at Dodge City, Kan., the son of Raymond and Glenda Bennett Steiniger. He died Sept. 15, 2005.
He attended Wilroads Gardens Elementary School and Dodge City Junior High and was a 1982 graduate of Dodge City High School. He was also a 1992 graduate of Dodge City Community College, Phi Theta Kappa with high honors. He was a member of Wilroads Gardens Christian Church.
In 1992, he received the Cornell University National Independent Living Manage-ment Training Certificate. In 1993, he received the American with Disabilities Act Training and Implementation Network. Tim received numerous awards throughout his life including 1974 Hunter Ethics Award 1991-1992 Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, 1992 Peter John Loux Memorial Award from Cerebral Palsey Research Foundation of Kansas, 1994 Life Worth Living Honorable Mention Award, 1995 Distinguished Achieve-ment for the Life Worth Living Award. He also served on numerous committees including, member of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, 1985-2001 advocate for Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns, 1989-1992 member of Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns, 1990 Testified before Congress in support of public law 101-336 regarding discrimination against persons with disabilities, 1994 and 1996 was president of the Executive Advisory Board of the Assistive Technology for Kansas Project, 2003 Board of Directors for Southwest Kansas Center for Independent Living.
Survivors include his father, Raymond Steinger of Wilroads Gardens, Kan.; his mother, Glenda Steininger of Wilroads, Gardens, a sister, Lesa Schrader of Hudson, Colo.; five brothers, Lee Steininger of Phoenix, Ariz., Mike Steininger of Elbert, Colo., Terry Steininger of Evanston, Wyo., Paul Steininger of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Joe Lees of Bazine, Kan.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Gardner and David Steininger and a sister, Nancy Konrade.
The funeral service was held at Wilroads Gardens Christian Church Sept. 19 with Jeff Hiers officiating. Burial was in Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City.
