Alton man publishes Moments of Victory

Thursday, June 22, 2006

ALTON -- For years, Jason Roberts, pastor of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church in Alton, has aired a daily devotion on K Kountry 95 Radio in Thayer.

The devotions, which usually air around 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, are one minute long and are referred to as a "Moment of Victory."

Roberts has now published a book by the same title, Moments of Victory. The book offers hope and encouragement to readers in 15 short, easy to read chapters that specifically address problems faced by many in today's society (anger, fear, stress, addictions and pain).

More than 60 of the radio spots that have been aired are included.

"I've actually been working on the book for a couple of years, but not consistently. I would work on it for awhile, then put it down for a few months, Roberts said. "I questioned at times if I really wanted to finish it, but I'm glad now that I did. I know that it won't be a best seller or win any awards, but that's not why I wrote it. I enjoy writing and wanting to have something I could use as a ministry tool to encourage people."

Roberts said when his manuscript was about three-fourths complete, Harlin Hutchison from the radio station called and asked if he had ever considered writing a book. "At that point I hadn't told anyone I was working on it, but I told him it was in the works. That seemed to confirm to me that it was meant to be," Roberts said.

Roberts said he is thankful for a local radio station that supports Christian programming.

"Over the past two years 'Moment of Victory' has been a very popular part of our broadcast day at the radio station. The topics are always timely, witty, entertaining and meaningful. I look forward to the new programs arriving," said KAMS Radio Program Director Mike Crase.

"I have listened to Jason's 'Moment of Victory' every day for more than two years and have hoped he would publish them in book form," said Harlin Hutchison. Hutchison said what makes the stories unique is their application toward anyone's daily walk through life.

"If you are looking for someone to give you a spiritual lift and a smile, you have come to the right place with 'Moment of Victory'," Hutchison said.

An excerpt from the book will be one of the featured devotions in the fall edition of Randall House's CLEAR Living, a Bible study magazine for adults.

The book is available through any Christian bookstore or online at Xulon, Barnes & Noble, Amazon or by calling 866-909-BOOK. Locally, the Quick Connection in Alton, the Bullseye Convenience Store in Thayer and the Serendipity Christian Bookstore in West Plains carry Moments of Victory.

Roberts is a 1987 graduate of Alton High School. He lives in West Plains with his wife Mary Ann and their three children, Hanna, Jake and Luke. Four years ago he left his job as a quality assurance engineer with Systems & Electronics (SEI) in West Plains to serve as a full-time pastor of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church in Alton.
