John Elvis Wheeler, 83, of Alton, Mo., was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Success, Ark., and died Oct. 14, 2007, at his home.
He was united in marriage to Shirley on May 29, 1952, and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley, of the home; two daughters, Lela Eschmann of Alton, and Freda Williams and husband James of Alton; three sons, John Wheeler and wife Rita of Alton, Joe Wheeler and wife Patty of Alton and?Jerry Wheeler and wife Jeanette of Alton; four sisters, Betty Crabtree, Joyce Barton, Lois Cates and Jettie Sisco, all of Alton; one special sister-in-law, Geneva Tillman of Alton; one special niece, Janice Brunsum of Alton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph Benjamin and Elsa Evelyn (Neal)?Wheeler; two daughters, Lillian Fern and Rita Jo Wheeler; three sisters, Victoria Blankenship, Joyce Johnson and Jewel Mauldin; one brother, Homer Wheeler; and one son-in-law, John Eschmann.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton with Bro. Mark Hodge officiating.
Burial followed in the Bailey Cemetery. Arrange-ments are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton.
