Mammoth Spring School budget increases

Thursday, September 20, 2007

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The Mammoth Spring School Board met in regular session Sept. 10 in the board meeting room.

Superintendent Ron Taylor told board members the budget for the 2007-2008 school year will be $3,139,937. He said this budget is up $68,000 from last year. "The price of nearly all the services used at the school has increased. It is going to be very hard for us to stay within this budget but we are going to have to try," he said.

The school board voted to accept the Arkansas School Comprehensive Instruction (ASCI) that has been put together by the staff at the school. Taylor said this program earmarks where all federal funds received by the school will be spent. He said ASCI program has to be filed with the state no later than Sept. 15.

The school board accepted the request by parents of a 7-year-old student that lives on the Salem/Mammoth Spring School District line for the student to attend school at Salem.

The school board listened to a proposal by Mammoth Spring resident Bill Pace to close an alley that belongs to the city but connects the school campus. They had no objection to the alley being closed. The alley is on the north side of the school campus.

School board members set the date for their annual report to the public to be prior to their regular school board meeting Oct. 10. Taylor said the annual report will be given at 6:30 p.m. with the regular school board meeting following at 7 p.m.
