MOOSE LODGE
An incident at the Moose Lodge near Salem April 30 has left a man hospitalized with head injuries.

Fulton County Sheriff Walter Dillinger said Jacob Acord of Glencoe and Rachel Higginbotham of Salem hid in brush and waited for Rick Roberts of Salem to enter his vehicle. Dillinger said Acord and Higginbotham attacked Roberts as he got into his vehicle and dragged him out of it. Witnesses said Acord beat Roberts with his fists, striking him in the face, according to Dillinger.

CPR had to be performed on Roberts at the scene, Dillinger said. Roberts suffered severe head injuries and had to be transported to Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Mo., afterward. Roberts is no longer a patient at Cox Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Authorities apprehended Acord and Holloway later that night, Dillinger said.

An affidavit charging Acord with second degree battery is waiting to be signed, Dillinger said. No charges have been filed against Higginbotham as of yet, he said.

"It's the first time since I've been sheriff that they've had an altercation out there (Moose Lodge)," Dillinger sad.
