Koshkonong to hold Heritage Day

KOSHKONONG -- The veterans salute will begin Heritage Day activities at 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Koshkonong City Park.

Following the salute will be a welcome by Koshkonong Mayor Rose Vandiver.

Singing will follow the opening ceremony, with the Howell Family scheduled to sing at 11 a.m. Dean Vonallman, Carl Trantham and Eugene and Mary Lou James will sing next, followed by Koshkonong School children.

The Civil War artillery firing will start at 2 p.m.

Rhonda Spirituals will sing at 3 p.m., and the Hillbilly Olympics will follow. Some of the scheduled Olympic events include: a men's wood splitting contest, ladies washing relay and a hillbilly relay.

Some of the booths planned for the day include craft booths, a bake sale, school-sponsored booths, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, antique tractors, a petting zoo, a chicken chase and a pet parade.

Meals can be purchased at the park the day of the festival.
