Waste tire collection set

Thursday, April 20, 2006

THAYER -- The South Central Solid Waste District will hold a waste tire collection at Thayer April 24-28.

Lynda Roehl, South Central Solid Waste Management coordinator, said the collection site will be at the Thayer Special Road District shed on Highway 19, just past Adams Western Store.

Roehl said tires 20 inches or less off the rim will be accepted at the collection. She said workers are limited to picking up 1,000 tires per collection (a truck load). Tires will not be accepted from businesses.

Roehl said the collection is open not only to Oregon County residents but to anyone in the seven-county South Central Solid Waste Management District. Residents in the following counties may also bring tires to be collected. They are: Howell, Shannon, Douglas, Ozark, Texas and Wright counties.

Roehl reminds residents that it doesn't take long to reach a 1,000-tire limit.

She said money for this program comes from a district grant through the tipping fee paid on each ton of waste taken to the landfill.
