William Lyon Whitaker of Salem, son of the late Louis Henry Whitaker and Georgia Francis (Frankie) Workman Whitaker, was born March 16, 1925, in Viola, Ark. He died Aug. 17, 2005, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home at the age of 80.
He was united in marriage to Betty K. Weathers on April 9, 1949, at Salem. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was area manager of Associated Milk Products for 39 years, a member of Salem United Methodist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Whitaker of the family home; his sisters, Mary Murphy of Raleigh, N.C., Mescal Lyons of West Plains, Mo. and Joan Pittaluga of Bartlett, Texas; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by one nephew and his father and mother.
Funeral service were Aug. 20, at the Salem United Methodist Church, with burial in Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Building Fund.
