Bobby Joe Tate, son of the late Stanley Joseph Tate and Ova McCollum Tate, was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Franklin. He died Aug. 19, 2005, in Batesville at the age of 61 years.
Tate was united in marriage to Lois Vaughn on March 28, 1962, in Violet Hill. He spent most of his working years farming. He operated a dairy farm for over 30 years. He was active in county affairs; serving as District 8 justice of the peace from 1989 to 1998. Tate was of the Baptist faith and was an active member of Franklin Baptist Church, serving as deacon.
Tate leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Lois Tate of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steven and Christy Tate of Horseshoe Bend and Christopher Tate of Violet Hill; three sisters, Carol Yancey of Violet Hill, Barbara Martin of Agnos, and Bonnie Hutchins of Violet Hill; three grandsons, Brandon Joe Tate, Colton James Tate and Ethan Wayne Tate; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Joleigh Tate; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sammy Joe Tate; and one sister, Catherine Sue Tate.
The funeral service was Aug. 21 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Robert Norton and Ralph Allmon officiating. Burial followed at Violet Hill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddy's Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bill Newell, Roy Bookout, Rodney Hutchins, Charlie Kimble, Shane Gleghorn and Don Taylor.
