Wade Powell has taken over the reins as principal at the school. He is a 1988 graduate of Mammoth Spring High School. He received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and middle school science from Arkansas State University. He also received a masters degree in elementary education from ASU.
He and his wife, Sherry, who will be a first grade teacher this year at the school, have two sons, Collin, who will be in the third grade, and Coltin, who will be a first grader.
Powell said he is excited about the new preschool program that will start this year at the school. "The preschool program is a huge thing and we are excited about it and looking forward to it. The greatest effect it will have is it will allow young children to start kindergarten in a better prepared situation," Powell said.
"We have a great school here, great students and a great faculty. They are both hard working. I want to allow students and teachers to spend as much time in the classroom as possible. This will give teachers the opportunity to teach and students the opportunity to learn as much as possible," he said. The new principal said academic achievement will be his top priority.
"I am excited about being principal and hopefully can transfer some of that excitement to the faculty and students who will carry it into the community," he said.
Powell said he wants to focus on the students. "I do encourage parents and students to come and visit with me at any time," he said.
