COUCH -- The Couch School Board voted to amend the resolution they made at last month's meeting to fund the lighting project at the school. Plans now call for the lighting project to be financed through a lease agreement with Crews and Associates.
The board discussed the two options they have for health insurance and are waiting for a quote from one of the companies.
Superintendent Rolla Fraley presented the 2004-05 final budget figures and told the board that plans are to amend the 2005-06 budget at the September board meeting.
He asked the board to consider changing the loading and unloading zones at the school for safety reasons. The board agreed to do so.
Bids were accepted from Hiland Dairy for milk; Sara Lee Bakery for baked products; Stateline Propane for bus fuel; and MFA Propane for propane for the upcoming school year. The board voted to accept the bid of Grennan Communications to install an alarm system in several buildings at the school.
The annual tax rate hearing at the school was set for Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.
Elementary Principal Russell Dickered told the board that the average daily attendance for summer school was 123.67 and that final approval of the Reading First grant has been received and the school district will receive $82,543 for that program.
High School Principal Tom Bull told the board that registration has been set for Aug. 1 for juniors and seniors, Aug. 2 for sophomores and freshmen and Aug. 3 for new students. He also said teacher workdays will be Aug. 11 and 12 and the first day of school at Couch will be Aug. 15.
The board offered Kay Bradley and Tammy Ennis employment as teachers aides for the 2005-06 school year, subject to background checks.
