Erma Ione Broad, 85, of New Castle, Ind. died Aug. 7, 2006 at Americare Living Center following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Aline, Okla., the daughter of the late Phillip H. and Effie Agnes States Rose.
She attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College in Milton-vale, Kan., and was a founding member of the First Wesleyan Church in Omaha, Neb., where she served on the board, was active in missions, and worked in the children's department.
She was also an active member of the Horseshoe Bend Wesleyan Church in Horseshoe Bend, where she directed the choir. She was presently a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle. She had also been active in the Cherobell's Chorus at Cherokee Village. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Gideon's International.
She is survived by a daughter, Carla Jo (husband Ronald) Clark of Porterville, Ca.; a son, Steven D. (wife Brenda Joy) Broad of New Castle; three grandsons, Chad J. Broad of Knightstown, Caleb R. and Chase A. Broad, both of New Castle; two great-grandsons, Joseph and Cody Broad; two brothers, E. Elmo Ross of Chanute, Kans., and Verlyn (wife Teddy) Ross of Oklamoma City; one niece, Michelle Sexton; and one nephew, Dennis Ross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice B. Broad in 1997, her parents and a sister in infancy.
Services were held Aug. 9, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Revs. George Dunnington and Leon Davis officiating. Burial followed in Spring Creek Cemetery near La Porte City.
