ICC, Salem top teams in Turkey Mountain match

Thursday, August 17, 2006

Izard County Consolidated's Brett Haney fired a four-over 41 to take Medalist honors while leading the Cougars past the Salem Greyhounds in season-opening golf action Aug. 1 at Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend.

ICC edged past the Hounds 131-133 in the nine-hole match.

Cave City and Buffalo Island Central also took part in the match, but neither had enough players to post a team-total in the competition.

Adam Montgomery carded a 44 for the Cougs, while Jeremy Burns followed with a 46.

J.W. Blevins paced Salem with a 43, while Joe Brown and Shane Smith shot 45 apiece for the Greyhounds.

Clay Long posted a 64 for the Cavemen, while Charles Poole shot a 65.

On the girls' side of things, a pair of ICC golfers posted the low scores for the afternoon, but the Lady Hounds took top team honors.

Despite not having enough golfers to post a team-total, the Lady Cougars' duo of Kiley Mettler and Rachel Harmon took individual honors.

Mettler grabbed the Medalist standing with a 47, while Harmon was close behind with a 48.

The Lady Hounds blasted BIC 158-181 to finish in first place in the team competition.

Salem's Kayla Dennis carded a 51, while Annie Smith shot 53. Jenny Neal notched a 54, and Kaitlyn Aldridge shot 57 for the day.
