Davies charged with third degree assault

Thursday, November 29, 2007

COUCH -- Robert J. Davies, 39, of Couch has been charged with assault in the third degree after he allegedly hit a man in the back of the head and in the face.

Deputy Eddie Johnson with the Oregon County Sheriff's Department said in a probable cause statement supplied from the prosecuting attorney's office that Allen Rippe called the sheriff's office on Nov. 4 at 2:57 a.m. from Fuel Express in Alton and said that he had been assaulted.

Alton Chief of Police Rusty Warren spoke to Rippe and determined an assault had occurred and advised him to come to the sheriff's department the following morning.

Johnson said Rippe told him he was at a bar located on Highway 160 north of Alton and had met a man "he thought was a pretty good guy." Rippe gave the man a ride home to a trailer park on AA highway. Rippe said the man asked him if he wanted to have sex with his girlfriend and that it would only cost $40.

Rippe said he started to leave and Davies hit him in the back of the head. He said Davies then followed him out of the home and started hitting him in the face with beer bottles and his fist.

Rippe said when Davies had him on the ground he took his cell phone and wallet that contained about $200.

Officer Johnson went to the Davies' home and Davies admitted being at the bar the night before but said he walked home.

Johnson said he spoke with a neighbor who stated he had seen Davies beating another man up.
