Dortha Mae (Doti) (Padgett) Steelsmith, 80, of Lebanon Ind., formerly of Horseshoe Bend, died Nov. 15, 2006, at St. Vincent's Hospice Center in Indianapolis, Ind.
She was born Jan., 1, 1926, in Boone County, Ind., the daughter of the late Ralph Padgett and Thelma McRoberts Padgett.
She was married to Wayne Steelsmith in Kirklin, Ind. in April of 1954. He preceded her in death in Aug. of 1981.
She worked as a carhop in the 1940s in Lebanon, Ind., then worked for TCA Tubes Division in the 1950s and at the RCA Westside location in Indianapolis in the 1960s.
She loved her flowers and animals.
She lived most of her life in Boone County, Ind., but spent nearly 20 years in Horseshoe Bend.
She spent 10 years with her companion, Wayne Brewer on a ranch raising cattle, pigs, rabbits and jumping catfish. After Brewer's death she returned to Indiana to work for Kirklin Public Library in the genealogy and history section, retiring in 2005.
She was a member of or affiliated with the following: Ottenbein Methodist Church, and First Baptist Church of Horseshoe Bend, and River of Life Church in Lebanon and the Kirklin American Legion Auxiliary, Lebanon Amaranth 12, Lebanon Eastern Star 23, Lebanon Eagles Auxiliary 2063, Lebanon Moose Auxili-ary 2062 and was a past Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn (Steelsmith) Hendry of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral services were held Nov. 19 at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home of Lebanon where calling was on Nov. 18. Pastor Matthew Eckart officiated at the service.
Cremation followed services with arrangements under the direction of Russell and Hitch Funeral Home Inc., of Lebanon, Ind.
