Mary Ellen Wainscott, 76, a retired meat processor, died Oct. 30, 2005, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Alton, Mo., the daughter of Ocea E. and Nancy Almeda Johnson Simmons.
She was married in Alton in 1968 to Charles Wainscott who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rita Simmons; one infant sister, Glenda Simmons; one infant brother, Danny Simmons; and one sister-in-law, Faye Simmons.
She assisted in the operation of the family owned Alton Locker Plant for many years. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include four brothers, Robert Simmons of Alton, Roscoe Simmons and wife, Joan, of Alton, Larry Simmons and wife, Daisy, of Alton, and Gilbert and wife, Pauline, of Pomona, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held Nov. 2 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Pastor David Scott officiating. Burial followed at Smith Cemetery in Alton. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Pallbearers were Randy Simmons, Jeff Simmons, Bill Young, Tom Young, Clifford Warren and Jim Huddleston.
