Arrests made in burglaries

Thursday, February 2, 2006

OREGON COUNTY -- Officers with the Oregon County Sheriff's Department have made three arrests in connection with the break-in and theft at a Thomasville business.

Oregon Country Sheriff Tim Ward said The Little Shopper, located at Highway 99 in Thomasville, was broken into and burglarized Dec. 1. The store is owned and operated by Evelyn Lane, also of Thomasville.

Ward said officers arrested Cody E. Davis, 18, of Alton Jan. 22. Davis has been charged with felony burglary and stealing. Also arrested was Robert L. Wilcox, 17, also of Alton. Wilcox was charged with felony stealing.

The sheriff said an unnamed 15-year-old juvenile from Alton was also involved in the incident and has been turned over to local juvenile authorities. Taken in the burglary were large quantities of cigarettes, chewing tobacco, duct tape and other items.

Wilcox posted a $4,900 bond and was released from custody. Davis' bond was set at $9,800, and as of press time he had not posted bond. Both men are scheduled to be in Oregon County Circuit Court Feb. 15.

Lee M. Smith, 27, of Thayer was transported to federal prison in Springfield last week. Ward said Lee was convicted in Arkansas on charges of criminal mischief in 1997.

The sheriff said Smith had three felony warrants out for his arrest, one for a felon in possession of a pistol in Oregon County in 2003 and two warrants charging him with possession of an under-length shotgun and possession of a shotgun.
