Clarence Edwin Kitchen, 84, of St. Charles, Mo., died Jan. 24, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late John and Charlotte Louise Tiemann Kitchen.
He served in the Navy aboard the USS Saratoga during World War II. He married Ramona Kersey in Greencastle, Ind., on June 19, 1965, and she preceded him in death Aug. 29, 2003.
A project engineer, he retired from Lincoln Engineering in St. Louis. He and Ramona retired to Riverton, Mo., where they built a unique home designed by Clarence on the Eleven Point River. He and Ramona were instrumental in the fundraising, design and construction of the BB Road Community Building and Firehouse in Oregon County. He donated an extensive pictorial history of the construction and dedication events to the Alton Library. He was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 1014 in Alton.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews and their families.
Kitchen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother and sister-in-law, John Jr. and Inez Grammer Kitchen.
The funeral services were held Jan. 27 at the Hayes Funeral Home in Coatesville, Ind.
Burial with military honors followed in the Stilesville Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Hays Funeral Home of Coatesville, Ind.
