Troy Hellums, son of the late Walter Presley Hellums and Lilie Porterfield Hellums was born July 30, 1925, in Larkin, Ark.
He died Jan. 16, 2006, in Batesville, Ark., at the age of 80.
He was united in marriage to Melba Owens in 1944.
He was a farmer and spent 12 years in Washington farming open land before returning to Arkansas.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 60 years; Melba Hellums of the home; five sons and daughters-in-law, James and Janice Hellums of Brockwell, Albert and Kathy Hellums of Brockwell, Steven and Ann Hellums of Kansas City, Mo., Leon and Bertha Hellums of Melbourne, and Ricky and Teresa Hellums of Salem; two daughters in sons-in-law, Louise and Graden Melton of Brockwell, and Bonnie and Dean Reynolds of Agnos; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters and four grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne with Dave Seaborn and Ray Carneal officiating.
Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Pallbearers were Roger Melton, Walter Hellums, Joey Duncan, Roy Hellums, Shawn Hellums, Steven Hellums, Troy Hellums and Nathan Hellums.
