Funeral services for Neva Mae Hefner, 80, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Thayer, were held June 29 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Erman Croney officiating. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Thayer, Mo., the daughter of the late Garland Tyree and Nora Bell Tyree. She died June 26, 2005, in Indpendence, Mo.

She was united in marriage July 29, 1942, in Thayer to Charles Hefner.

She was a good wife to her husband for 62 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a homemaker and a member of the 39th Street Church of Christ in Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Charles, of the home in Independence, Mo.; three daughters -- Janice Reeder, Lana Stinson and Francine Hudgens and husband, Steve, all of Indpendence; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters -- Eva Paulson of Thayer, Mo., Rita Turner and Treva Atkins both of Mammoth Spring., and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bob Tyree; and two sons-in-law, Joe Stinson and Sonny Reeder.
