Donald Herbert Wake-ham, 83, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died Oct. 12, 2005, at his residence.
Wakeham was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Ames, Iowa, the son of the late Arthur E. Wakeham and Addie Mae Jones Wakeham. He was united in marriage to Bert Olson on Aug. 1, 1943, in Randall, Iowa.
He was a veteran of the Unied States Marine Corps having served during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked many years as a bridge contractor before retiring and moving to Hardy in 1967.
The Wakehams purchased Hardy Supply, a hardware store and ran it for several years. They also owned and operated the Sears Store in Hardy before selling and retiring completely. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Gold Wing Road Riders Assocation and the Peace Luthrean Church.
Suvivors include his wife, Bert Wakeham of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Wakeham of Fayetteville, Ga., Mark and Barbara Wakeham of Cherokee Village; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Conrad Miller of Maumelle; one brother, Ron Wakeham of Ames, Iowa; one sister, Elsie Fedderly of Rock-ford, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; two brothers and one grandson, Craig Wakeham.
The memorial service was Oct. 15 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village with pastor Brian Pummill officiating. Arrange-ments were under the direction of the Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland, Ark.
The family requests that memorials be made to Peace Lutheran Church or to Spring River Hospice.
