Sobriety checkpoints conducted by the Izard County Sheriff's Department at various locations within the county during the New Year's holiday weekend resulted in illegal drug and alcohol related arrests.
Ronnie Ray Hollowell, 36, of Mount Pleasant was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. According to authorities, Hollowell had in his possession a strong form of methamphetamine, known as "ice" on Dec. 31.
Hollowell remains in the Izard County Detention Facility pending formal charges. He was arrested earlier in 2005 when Izard County Officers said that a methamphetamine lab was found at his residence.
In conjunction with Hollowell's arrest, Dusty M. Powers, 29, of Batesville was arrested for driving while intoxicated -- drugs, possession of an instrument of crime -- a methamphetamine smoking device and endangering the welfare of a minor. Authorities say Powers tested positive for methamphetamine.
A 3-year-old child was in the vehicle with Powers and placed with the Department of Human Services. Powers was placed in the Izard County Detention Facility.
Brent Dale, 37, of Violet Hill was arrested Dec. 31 on a probation/parole violation warrant. Authorities say Dale tested positive for methamphetamine when arrested. He posted bond in the amount of $15,000 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
