MYRTLE -- Couch High School senior Courtney Sanders has been elected as Family Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) president and Region 9 state vice president.

Sanders, 18, is the daughter of Linda Sanders and Allen Sanders.

Sanders has been involved in FCCLA at Couch School for four years.

"As a freshmen I was involved in star events. Beth Jones and I received a gold medal at the regional and state level with our project 'Focus on Children,'" Sanders said.

As a sophomore Sanders served as secretary and reported for the Couch FCLA and attended the cluster Meeting in Jacksonville, Fla. "My sophomore year Aaron Yarber and I received a silver medal at regional star events for national programs in action," she said.

Her junior year, she served as vice president of the Couch FCCLA chapter and attended the state FCCLA convention in Columbia, Mo. "This past summer I attended the national FCCLA convention in San Diego, Calif. I currently serve as Region 9 state vice president and Couch FCCLA chapter president," Sanders said.

Sanders said she has learned a lot the last four years in FCCLA. "I have learned how to be a better leader and have gained skills for life through FCCLA. Through the organization I have grown as a person," she said.

Teresa Holder is the Couch FCCLA advisor.
