AREA -- The annual Alton Christmas Pageant and Parade will get holiday activities under way in the area Dec. 3. The event is sponsored by the Alton Culture Club.
Alton Culture Club spokesperson Tammy Curtis said for the first time ever there will be a pre-pageant show starting at 8:45 a.m. in the Alton High School Gym. "The show will feature the Alton Culture Club tap dancers (ladies 45 and older), Tumble Jungle Dancers and Gymnastics, the Alton Elementary Choir, a dog costume show and, of course, Santa," Curtis said.
She said the pageant crowning will be at 10 a.m. and the parade will be at 11 a.m.
"The parade will feature a grand marshal, who this year will be Jackie Engman, president of the Missouri Federation of Women's Clubs, 6th District. She is a resident of West Plains," Curtis said. "There will be an honorary merchant, and club members have selected Jeannie Anderson for the honor. Anderson owns and operates Alton Florists. There will be bands, antique cars, horses, tractors, floats, pets and more," she said.
Curtis said there will be a $2 admission for adults, and children under 12 are free.
Parade entries may be made by contacting Curtis at 417-778-7327 or Daisy Simmons at 417-778-6164.
