The Salem Greyhounds found out just why the Bay Yellowjackets were awarded the number two seed in the A-AA brackets of the 2005 Northeast Arkansas Invitational Tournament.
Using a powerful inside attack, Bay knocked the Greyhounds out of the tourney with a 79-51 loss Dec. 22 at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The Yellowjackets posted 54 of their 79 points in the lane, taking control of the paint.
Lance Powell paced Salem with 12 points on the night.
The Greyhounds broke open a tight game late to hold off Weiner 46-34 in the NEA Tournament Dec. 21.
Riding the wave of a 13-3 run in the final frame, Salem kept the Cardinals at bay.
With the Hounds up 25-19 at the half, both teams went through an extended period of sluggishness in the third, with Salem scoring four points, and Weiner seven in the stanza.
The fourth period is where Salem managed to pull away, leading 29-26 heading into the last period.
Salem outscored the Cardinals 17-8 in the fourth to emerge with a victory.
Chad Willett paced Salem with 15 points, while Powell added 12, and Derek Estes 11.
