OREGON COUNTY -- The Oregon County Library District received word last week that it has received a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) administered by the Missouri State Library.

A spokesperson for the library district said the Alton and Thayer branches of the library have received a $450 federal grant to be used for Theresa T's Magic Show, the summer reading program for 2006. The grant will finance the program "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails" featuring the magical entertainment of professional magician Theresa T.

"This grant will help the library meet the needs of a very important and vital segment of our summer reading program activities. Both branches of the library will be able to provide an entertaining and educational program for summer school students and the local community," said Judy Wright, Oregon County Library coordinator.

Wright said the summer reading program activities at the Alton and Thayer libraries will be held during the month of June 2006. The magic show will be held June 12 at 10 a.m. at the Alton Library and at 1 p.m. the same day at the Thayer Library.
