Area Christmas parades slated

AREA -- Two Christmas parades will be held Dec. 10 in the Oregon County/Mammoth Spring area.

The Koshkonong Christmas Parade will start at 10:30 a.m. The theme for the parade is "Star Spangled Christmas."

Cash prizes will be awarded for the best float, best decorated bicycle. best antique or classic car and best wagon or buggy.

Parade organizer Kathy Reynolds said, "Horse clubs and horse riders are welcome. A prize will be given to the best participant who carries out this year's theme." She said no ATVs will be allowed in the parade.

The Koshkonong Christmas Baby will be crowned immediately following the parade. Also after the parade the citizen of the year, outstanding volunteer and the 2005 parade grand marshal will be recognized.

Reynolds said parade lineup will be at 9 a.m. behind the school bus barn.

Those planning to be in the parade are asked to use the north Highway 63 school entrance across from Z Highway to keep congestion on the highway at a minimum.

The Mammoth Spring Christmas Parade will also be Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

The parade is sponsored annually by the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce. Lineup for the parade will be at 1 p.m. at the Mammoth Spring City Park.

Awards for the best floats will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. Cash awards are sponsored by area banks.

Trophies will be given to the best dressed motor bike and rider, best dressed horse and rider and best dressed marching and performing troupe. Bands will be given $50 each.

Flag troops, horses and riders, antique cars and motorcycles are all invited to participate.

Mammoth Spring Mayor Jean Pace said there will be an open house held all day at the newly remodeled police station in conjunction with the Christmas Parade.

The police station is located at 165 South Third Street. The only time the open house will be closed is during the parade.
