An Izard County woman was inadvertently shot by her boyfriend Oct. 2 at their home on Highway 58 near Bonetown, according to authorities.
Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said 44-year-old Trini Collins was shot in the upper right thigh by Bryan Regis.
Collins was transported from the scene to White River Medical Center in Batesville where she was treated and released.
When deputies from the Izard County Sheriff's Department arrived at the home, both Collins and Regis told investigators that an intruder had shot Collins from the woods adjacent to the house, Lawrence said.
He said investigators found a .22 caliber rifle inside the home.
Regis later admitted that he had accidentally discharged the weapon, causing Collins' injury, Lawrence said. Regis, a convicted felon, is not allowed by law to possess a firearm.
Regis was arrested and charges were pending as of press time.
Until he is charged a bond or court date cannot be set.
