Eli Ben Davis, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Oscar Cylvester Davis and Lydia Jane Davis, was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Elizabeth, Ark. He died March 30, 2008, at his home in Salem, at the age of 89.
He was united in marriage to Olene Comstock on Feb. 23, 1983, in Melbourne, Ark.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a maintenance man employed by Dealers Transport in Kansas City, Mo., for over 20 years. He attended services at the Salem Church of God.
Survivors include his wife: Olene, of the family home; his children, Irene Burgess and husband Noel, Vessie Davis and wife Bonnie, Jane Leger and husband Ed, Virginia Erisman, Ben Davis Jr. and wife, Erin and Shirley Byler; step-daughter, Belinda Balentine and husband Dean; 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Versie Gilstrap and Murlie Wampler; and his brother, Murphy Davis.
He was preceded in death by: two sons, Leslie Ben and Charles Davis; brothers and sisters; Nora Tanner, Dorothy Satterfield, Ellie Pisterioa, Gracie Crotts, Lorene Stuart, Ada Odie, and Truman Davis; two half sisters, Mabel Davis and Gladys Compton; two grandchildren, Barbara Peal and Charles Crawford; and his father and mother.
Funeral services were held April 4 at Cox-Blevins Chapel with burial in Roselawn Cemetery, Calico Rock, with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
