Art show to be held during festival

Thursday, September 21, 2006

THAYER -- The Thayer Area Arts Council will hold an art show and sale Oct. 12-15 at the Oregon County Country Music Theater.

The show and sale will be held in conjunction with Thayer Alumni Homecoming.

All forms of original art, both two dimensional and three dimensional, will be accepted.

"The purpose of the exhibit will be to showcase various media of visual arts produced by area artists of the Ozarks," said Judith Cornelius of the arts council. She said a large portion of the collection will be available for purchase.

"Many homes, businesses and offices have space available for works of art, and we think there is no better way to support local artists than to highlight their work here in Thayer," she said.

Cornelius said artists can bring their work on Oct. 7 or Oct. 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee for the show is $5 for one piece and $2 for each additional piece up to five entries per artists.

The show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Cornelius said artwork may be picked up on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The country music theater is located at Fifth and Walnut Street in Thayer.

The artwork must be original.

Cornelius said the show will be juried. There will be eight awards of excellence and six honorable mention awards. A best of show award that includes a cash prize of $50 and a people's choice award will be chosen.
