O.J. Chester of Dalton, Ark., died Jan. 24, 2008, at NEA?Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. He was 89. He was born Nov. 7, 1918, the son of the late J.J. (Ted) and Minerva Holland Chester.
He was a member of the Dalton Church of Christ.
He was married to Eileen King on April 15, 1944. He served during World War II in Germany, France and Belgium. He was a cattle farmer and continued this until 2002.
He is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Eileen; two daughters, Sharyn Reed and husband, Roland, of Gatewood, Mo., and Diane Huett and husband, Phillip, of Dalton; two granddaughters, Sharla Amick and husband, Chris of Warm Springs, Tara Newman and husband, Chris of Jonesboro; three great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Kern Chester and wife, Ann, of Paragould; several nieces; nephews, and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Earl, Virgil and Ray Chester; two sisters, Velma Brown and Mary Nell Parsons; and one granddaughter, Sherri Roann Reed.
Funeral services were held Jan. 26 in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Gerald Fears officiating. Burial followed in the King Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas, Ark.
