Fredis Mitchell, son of the late Elmer Arthur Mitchell and Ella Smith Mitchell, was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Mitchell, Ark. He departed this life on Feb. 5, 2008, at his home in Pineville, Ark., at the age of 84.
He was united in marriage to Myrtle Ivie on March 29, 1942, in Calico Rock, Ark.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. During his working years, he owned and operated the grocery store in Pineville for 28 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Pineville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kathie Mitchell of Pineville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lois and R.O. Carpenter and Ercille Mooney all of Mountain Home; five grandchildren, Jim Farris, Michael Farris, Dianne Cochrum, Steven Mitchell and Sarah King; 10 great grandchildren, Susan Farris, Josh and Ellie Cochrum, C.J. and Britney Farris, Caroline, Emma and John David Mitchell, Chloe and Kallie King; one son-in-law, Joe Don Farris of Salesville, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Myrtle Mitchell; one sister, Velma Hankins; one brother, Leslie Mitchell.
Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at the Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Wayne Wood officiating. Burial followed at Pineville Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were: Darrell Killian, Terry Seay, Gerald Woods, Rex Whiteaker, Danny Moser, Junior Owens.
Honorary pallbearers were: Randy Mooney, Jerry Mooney and Bill Hankins.
Memorials may be made to the Pineville Cemetery.
