George W. Glenn

George W. Glenn, 89, formally of Cherokee Village, died March 6, 2006, at Lakeview Landing in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born May 15, 1916, in Norway, Iowa, son of J.C. and Viola James Glenn.

He married Virginia A. Becker May 5, 1941 in Cascade, Iowa. George graduated from Norway High School.

He served in the Army and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.

Upon his return he worked for CIT in both Cedar Rapids and Mason City, Iowa.

He moved to Sheffield, Iowa, where he owned the Ford dealership.

In 1955 he moved to Waterloo and became the business manager for Waterloo Surgical and Medical Group.

He played saxophone and sang with a group called the Medicats. He was also a past exalted ruler of the Elks.

George retired in 1981 and moved to Cherokee Village and lived on Lakeview Estates Drive for 23 years.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Elks. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was a Presider, Lector and Eucharistic minister. For his last 2 years in Cherokee Village he lived at Fountain Place. In May 2005 George and Virginia returned to Waterloo.

Survivors include: wife, Virginia of 64 years, a son, Robert (Nancy) of Jefferson City, Mo.; a daughter, Kathy (John) McGarry of Evergreen, Colo; six grandchildren, Tim (Cara) Glenn; Chris (Jen) Glenn; Angie Kopriva; Tony Glenn; Shea McGarry and Ryan McGarry; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother David Glenn, San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lorraine Trosky and Viola Glenn.
