Invitations sent for Grizzly All-Star games

Friday, March 24, 2006

Area cagers will want to check in with their coaches in the coming days, as invitations to the first ever Grizzly All-Star games were recently mailed to area coaches.

Brian Ostermann, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly men's basketball team, said scouts have evaluated the area's top high school basketball talents and made their final decisions about which players they want to see compete in the April 22 event at the West Plains Civic Center arena.

"I am really excited for this event," Ostermann said. "We believe our area deserves to have an All-Star contest like this to recognize the tremendous basketball players we have in south-central Missouri and north-central Arkansas."

Hosted by the Grizzly basketball program, the event will feature the top 24 senior boys and the top 24 senior girls from varsity high school teams in south-central Missouri and north-central Arkansas, as chosen by a panel of coaches.

Players selected will arrive the morning of the All-Star games to practice with the high school coaches selected to coach them during the competition.

Following a pizza party luncheon, the girls All-Star game will get under way at 4:30 p.m., and the boys will play at 7 p.m. April 22.

Three-point and slam dunk contests will be held at 6 p.m.

Ostermann said the finalized rosters will be announced around March 30, and ticket information for the games will soon follow that announcement.

A game program for the event will be developed. Businesses and individuals can purchase ads in the program by contacting Ostermann at 417-255-7991.
