Longhorns pass by Cougars

Led by Lucas Rains' three runs-batted-in, the Viola Longhorns pushed past Izard County 11-9 at Brockwell March 25.

Viola held an 11-0 lead, scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth, but the Cougars answered with seven runs in the bottom of the frame to keep close.

Austin Springfield, Kasey Humphries and Dylan Holstine racked up three hits apiece for Viola.

Curtis Clark homered for the Cougars and drove in four runs, with Jeremy Burns and Ethan Porter collecting a pair of hits each for Izard County. Dustin Noblin had a four-RBI day for the Cougars.

The Longhorns had little trouble with Mammoth Spring March 27, as Viola stopped the Bears by a count of 11-1.

Springfield picked up the win for the Horns, striking out eight while giving up a pair of walks to the Bears. At the plate, Springfield went two-for-two with a run-batted-in.

Lucas Rains went two-for-four with two ribbies. Jackson Rains drove in two runs, with Jesse Shrable and Jacob Luther logging an RBI each for Viola.

Viola opened the Batesville Pioneer Classic with a 6-1 win over Cedar Ridge March 29.

Jacob Payne earned the win, striking out eight.

Springfield logged two RBIs, while Lucas Rains, Humphries and Luther drove in one run apiece in the victory.
