Lady Greyhounds edge Viola

In her first at-bat on the varsity level, Maggie Pleasant came up huge for the Salem Lady Greyhounds.

Pleasant smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth March 25, helping Salem rally past the Viola Lady Longhorns 5-3.

The Lady Hounds were trailing 3-2 when Pleasant struck.

Leslie Taylor picked up the win for Salem recording seven strikeouts while walking none and allowing seven hits.

Dedra Johnston was saddled with the loss for Viola, giving up eight hits while fanning three and walking none.

Jamie James went two-for-three with an RBI for Salem, while Jordan Nelson and Laci Long had a double apiece. Ashley Brooks went one-for-three with a run-batted-in, while Jessica Smith racked up a two-bagger for the Lady Greyhounds.

Johnston paced Viola with a two-for-three day at the plate, including a triple and three ribbies, while Chasidy Hutson went two-for-four for the Lady Horns.

The Lady Greyhounds smashed Valley Springs 15-0 in 3A-1 East play March 27.

Taylor gave up just two hits as she fanned five batters in three innings of work to earn the shutout victory. At the dish, Taylor belted a home run and drove in four runs for Salem.

Nelson smacked a triple and recorded two RBIs, Jessica Smith had two hits, Long drove in two, Terra Kinder ripped a triple, Brooks had two hits and Stephanie McCullough drove in a run in the Lady Hounds' rout of Valley Springs.
