Jan. 20 marks the first concert of its kind in northeast Arkansas. The Delta Music Teachers Association will hold its first-ever ensemble concert at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall of Arkansas State University.
The one-of-a-kind event will feature 26 pianists from the northeast Arkansas region playing as many as four pianos simultaneously. Performers met as a group in early November to begin rehearsing the selections that have been especially chosen for Saturday's program.
Pianists participating in the program include Jessie VanAusdall (Jonesboro); Karen Adams (Jonesboro); Peter and Brett Kootz (Hardy); Natasha and Karam Sra (Cherokee Village); Emily, William and Perry Shattuck (Mammoth Springs); Ariana Nahung (Jonesboro); Linnie Jiang (Jonesboro); Kelly, Kasey and Courtney Welsh (Jonesboro); Aaron Hong (Jonesboro); Anna Pittman (Jonesboro); Alex Saunders (Jonesboro); Kyle Clogston (Jonesboro); Kristyn Belk (Jonesboro); William and Claire Sonnier (Batesville); Josie and Ronnie McCann (Batesville); Janai Powell (Powhatan); Laura Jacobsen (College City); and Katherine Melikian (Walnut Ridge).
Participating teachers include Frances Gray (Jonesboro); Marian Henderson (Cherokee Village); Dr. J.D. Kelly (Jonesboro); Thelma Kern (Jonesboro); Priscilla Noyes (Jonesboro); Dr. Sarah Weston (Batesville); and Dr. Chris Thompson (Walnut Ridge). Directing the pianists will be conductors Dr. Lauren Schack Clark (Arkansas State University), Dr. J.D. Kelly (Arkansas State University), and Dr. Chris Thompson (Williams Baptist College).
The program is free of charge and open to the public.
