Council gets right to work

Thursday, January 18, 2007

MAMMOTH SPRING -- Newly elected city officers were sworn in at the Jan. 2 Mammoth Spring City Council meeting.

Justice of the Peace Jimmy Marler swore in Mayor Jean Pace and Aldermen Bill Tibbits, Larry Burns, Jim Mills and Danny Busch.

In other city council action, two ordinances were passed by the council concerning the city budget. The first ordinance was to amend the 2006 budget. Mayor Pace said the city went over the city budget in five departments.

The equipment fund was budgeted at $10,000 and was amended to $14,000; fire pension fund, $11,800 amended to $13,375; general fund, $250,000 amended to $280,250; street fund $101,000 amended to $143,000; and water fund $226,000 amended to $229,000.

Pace said nearly all of the amendments to the 2006 budget had to be made due to extra work caused by the storm that passed through the city in July.

The second ordinance adopted the 2007 budget at $613,800. Pace said this is a slight increase from last year and that every year the city allows for a slight increase in the budget to cover unexpected expenses.

The council then discussed some of the improvements needed in the city including generators and the drainage problem on Main Street. No decision was made on either topic.
