The Fulton County Sheriff's Department needs more money, Sheriff Walter Dillinger said at the Fulton County Quorum Court meeting May 14.
Dillinger addressed the court asking for an appropriation for more employees.
Dillinger said he wanted to hire two part-time employees that would work no more than 24 hours and one full-time employee. "It gets tight to fill spots and sometimes women are left alone with the prisoners," he said. "I need these (new employees) to help cover spots."
After considerable discussion the issue was tabled until the June meeting.
In other quorum court business, the court voted to amend the personnel policy to clarify holiday pay for part-time employees.
Fulton County Judge Charles Willett said there had been some confusion as to what holiday pay employees were entitled to. "We've got some Monday through Thursday people who expect to get paid for Friday holidays," Willett said. "If they don't work on Fridays, they don't get paid for it. If a holiday falls on a Monday, though, that's fine. We just need to make sure this is clear."
