Murder suspect arrested in Thayer

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

THAYER -- On May 8 the Thayer Police Department received a tip from the Doniphan Police Department that a man wanted in Ripley County for second degree murder was in the area.

Thayer Police Chief Frank Bernard said Michael Boone, 26, of Doniphan was arrested at a Thayer residence on Sixth Street.

Ripley County officials said the murder charge against Boone was filed after a coroner's jury heard evidence on April 13 and determined Rodney Ray, 36, of Doniphan died as a result of deadly force allegedly inflicted by Boone.

Officers said Ray died of a gunshot wound to the head July 13 of last year.

The Ripley County Sheriff's Department picked Boone up at the Thayer Police Station May 8.

On May 10 officers with the Thayer Police Department arrested Marcus Martin, 26, of Thayer and Robert Huff, 21, also of Thayer on a class C felony of theft of property.

Bernard said the pair stole a 2004 Artic Cat 4-wheeler on May 10 from Brian Tune at TNT Manufactured Homes in Thayer.

Bernard said the Thayer Police Department was assisted in the arrest by officers with the Mammoth Spring Police Department.

Both men posted a $4,900 bond and are scheduled to be in Oregon County Court in June.
