HOWELL COUNTY -- A Koshkonong man is in a Springfield hospital after being seriously injured May 14.
Richard Lager, 44, was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains and then transferred to St. John's in Springfiled where he is in the neuro-intensive care unit at the hospital after he was reportedly beaten by Donald Padgett, 24, of Caulfield.
A report from the Howell County Sheriff's Office said Padgett hit Lager with his hands and feet during an altercation on Howell County Road 6490.
Deputy Torey Thompson was dispatched to Ozarks Medical Center because of Lager's injuries. He reported that Lager's girlfriend, said her ex-boyfriend, Padgett, had grabbed her by the throat and when Lager learned of the incident, went looking for him.
The girlfriend said that Padgett later called her and told her to come get her boyfriend out of a ditch.
The girlfriend said when she found Lager she took him to a friends house and the friend thought his injuries were serious enough for him to go to the hospital.
Padgett was charged with assault.
He posted a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be in Howell County Associate Circuit Court June 4.
