Waste tire collection slated

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

ALTON -- The South Central Solid Waste Management District will hold a collection for waste tires Nov. 1 through Nov. 9 at the Oregon County Maintenance Shed on Highway 19 at Alton.

"Tires can be brought to the shed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.," said Lynda Roehl, district coordinator.

Roehl said as in the past, the collection is limited to 1,000 tires.

"We cannot accept any tires from businesses which sell tires or accept tires as part of their business," she said.

"Also, tires should be passenger sizes 20 inches or less and be off the rim."

The collection is open to all the citizens in the seven-county district.

Those counties are Oregon, Douglas, Howell, Ozark, Shannon, Texas and Wright.

After the 1,000 tires are collected the collection site will not receive any more tires.

"It is important to get tires to the site in a timely fashion. It doesn't take long to reach the 1,000-tire limit," she said.
