After guiding the Salem Lady Greyhounds' softball squad to a school-record 21 wins and third straight trip to the Class AA State Tournament this season, head coach Eric Chambers has been rewarded by being named skipper of the East All-Stars in the 51st annual Arkansas Activities Association High School All-Star weekend.
The annual event, sponsored by Wal-Mart and Tyson Foods, is held on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, with the softball doubleheader slated for June 21 with a 5 p.m. start time at the LadyBack Yard.
Chambers, who took part in last year's softball games as an assistant coach, will be joined on the East coaching staff by Jonesboro's Steve Baker, Marion's David Horton, Central Arkansas Christian's Brooke Parker and Brad Hayes from Delaplaine.
Chambers will not be Salem's lone representitive, as Lady Hounds Carrie Johnson and Chelsea Taylor were also selected to take part in the All-Star event.
Johnson hit .470 with 25 RBIs and 17 stolen bases for Salem this season, while Taylor batted .320 with 18 ribbies. Taylor also picked up five wins on the mound this year. Johnson and Taylor helped the Lady Hounds rack up a 45-3 2AA-North record over the course of the last four years.
Mammoth Spring's Jodie Walsh also played her way to an All-Star invitation this season.
