MAMMOTH SPRING -- The 113th Old Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Air Force Reunion will be held at Mammoth Spring State Park July 31 through Aug. 5.
Mammoth Spring VFW Post 7831 annually sponsors the event.
This year the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a kids talent show Monday evening for children 14 and younger and an adult talent show Tuesday evening. According to Auxiliary President Dorothy Parks, those planning to enter either talent show need to preregister and are asked to be at the Train Depot and Museum between 6 and 7 p.m. The shows will start each evening at 7 p.m. at the Depot.
Parks said the first place winner in each talent show will receive $75, second place $50, and third place $25.
Rides will open each night on the midway at 6 p.m. and armbands will be available each night.
Kids' Day is set for Saturday afternoon. The VFW sponsors a bicycle drawing that afternoon where a boy and girl will each win a new bicycle.
A Civil War encampment is planned for Aug. 5, with a skirmish set for 2 p.m. There will be tours of the encampment, drills and cannon firing demonstrations. The encampment will be presented by the 45th Arkansas Calvary.
Bingo will be played each evening starting at 5 p.m.
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will hold a cedar chest and quilt drawing at 9 p.m. Aug. 5. The auxiliary will also sell knives and cookbooks.
Other entertainment and activities offered throughout the week include:
Wednesday -- The Mammoth Spring Springers Square Dancers at the pavilion at 7 p.m.
Thursday -- A patriotic program presented by Jeff and Diane Tharp at the pavilion at 7 p.m.
Friday -- J.W. Hurtt Band to perform country music at 7 p.m. at the Depot.
Saturday -- J.W. Hurtt Band to perform Gospel music at 7 p.m. at the Depot.
Parks said anyone planning to attend any of the evening activities should bring a lawn chair.
