Donald Alonzo Smith was born the son of Ransome A. Smith. and Treva Mae Hall Smith on Oct. 5, 1939, in Bossier City, La., and died July 3, 2007, in Mountain Home, Ark., at the age of 67. He was united in marriage June 10, 1967, at Mammoth Spring, Ark., to Judy Turner.
Don was a leader in his community. He was a retired fire fighter and retired as assistant chief of police for the Thayer Police Department after 20 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving for a total of 21 years, retiring as Tech Sergeant. ?He was a member of the Air Force Association, a member and commander of the American Legion Charles Burkett Post 344 and member of the VFW?Post 7831 in Mammoth Spring.
He was a member of the Thayer Church of Chris.
He is survived by: his wife, Judy of the home in Thayer; three daughters, Donna Reed and husband, James of Batesville, Ark., Cindy Callahan and husband, Donnie of Mammoth Spring, and April Hill and husband Dennis of Watauga, Texas; one son, Richard Smith and wife, Shari of Leesville, La.; five grandchildren, Kirsty Callahan and Stacey Callahan of Mammoth Spring, Jacklyn Hill and James Hill of Watauga, Texas and Adam Welch of Leesville, La.; one brother, Robert Smith and wife, Karen of Portland, Ore.; several nieces; nephews other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ransome and Treva Smith.
Funeral services were held July 7 at the Thayer Church of Christ with Erman Croney officiating. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
