L. Edwin "Etto"?Bassham, of West Plains, Mo., son of the late Jay Felix and ?Mary Elizabeth (Holloway) Bassham was born Aug. 14, 1921, at Moko, Ark., the fifth of nine children. He died July 4, 2007, at his home at the age of 85.

Etto was united in marriage to Tommy Jean Lemmons on June 2, 1951, at Sturkie, Ark., They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He served as sergeant in the United States Army Air Force from Sept. 15, 1942, to Dec. 25, 1945, in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

He was a member of the Moko Church of Christ and VFW?Post 9777 at Salem, Ark.

Etto enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His farewell wish was always to come back soon.?

His favorite pastimes were baseball (coaching and playing), fishing and his work as a carpenter. He only had to look at a house plan, then he could build it.

He is survived by: his wife, Tommy Jean Bassham of West Plains; two sons, Bruce E. Bassham (Beckie) of ?Nixa,?Mo., and Guy Verne Bassham of West Plains; a brother, Tom Bassham (Vera) of Salem; a sister, Ruthie Lee Harris of Salem; two grandchildren, Dawn Clark (Jeff) of Reeds Springs,?Mo., and Jay Bassham (Shelly) of Morrisville, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Kylie Bassham,?Nathan Clark, Trinity Bassham and Tye Bassham; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; five brothers, Jim?Odell, Talmadge, Roy and Archie Bassham; and a sister, Mae Bassham.

Memorial services were held on July 6 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with arrangements being made under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.

Memorials are preferred to the Paragould Children's Home or the Stateline Cemetery Association.
