Owen Leon Coffel Sr., a retired factory worker, died Aug. 17, 2006, in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 90.
He was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Senath, Mo., the son of James David Coffel and Florence Ford Coffel.
He was united in marriage Sept. 24, 1937, in Green County, Ark., to Eva England.
He is survived by eight children, Loretta Sawyer and husband Vernon of Alton, Jimmy Coffel and wife Janice of Koshkonong, Owen Coffel Jr. and wife Geneva of Thayer, Sharon Lloyd and husband Jim of Thayer, Linda Baker and husband Jeff of Oxford, Mich.; Donna Baum and husband, Monte of Ionia, Mich., Marilyn Fast and husband Reggie of Pontiac, Mich., and Carolyn Brown and husband Richard of Thayer; 36 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, J.C. Coffel of Washington, Eugene Coffel of Bono, Ark. Orb Coffel of Michigan and Euell Coffel of St. Louis, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva; one son, Richard Coffel; one daughter, Susan Coffel; one grandson, Patrick Brown; twin grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Coffel; one brother, Ira Coffel; and two sisters, Ora Williams and Iva Gray.
Services were held Aug. 21 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with the Rev. Grover Pingleton officiating. Burial followed in Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
