Fulton County has little damage

Thursday, September 28, 2006

Fulton County workers are continuing efforts to repair damage and clear debris from the weekend's weather.

"We're lucky. There have been no major injuries reported, and everyone in the county has power. There was only one residence that reported any damage from a tornado," said Willett. "We did help save one couple around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Their car had washed against the sides of Wirth Bridge. They were trapped, but a successful rescue was organized."

Willett estimated that about 70 percent of the roads in the eastern portion of the county had major damage.

"We've spent hours clearing hundreds of trees from Springwood and Wolf Hollow. Right now we are just going through and doing temporary repairs so people can travel. We've got everything open except for Slayton Road where 15.5 inches (of rain) was reported," Willett said.

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management is going to be in Fulton County to help workers and any individuals who might need housing assistance. Anyone who needs housing aid can call the Fulton County Judge's Office at 895-3341.

Despite the numerous tornado sightings in the area, Izard County residents have reported little damage after the weekend's torrential weather.

The county experienced baseball sized hail around Franklin, and some damage to a shed at Wiseman was reported, according to Izard County Judge Rayburn Finley.

Finley said, "No major damage was reported, just a few (road) washouts. We know we are lucky here in Izard County. It could've been much worse, like the damage in Sharp County."
