Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Congressman Marion Berry have announced that the Fulton County Hospital has received approval for a $3.4 million community facility loan from the USDA.
The USDA's direct loan program provides the opportunity for public establishments and nonprofit organizations to improve upon and further develop essential community facilities in rural areas with town populations of less than 20,000.
"These federal dollars will allow the Fulton County Hospital to expand its facilities and better serve the people of the community," said Lincoln.
"I am pleased to see Fulton County taking advantage of federal funds to expand its medical facilities and promote further growth and development," said Berry. "This USDA loan marks the beginning of a major transformation for the Fulton County Hospital."
The Fulton County Hospital will undergo major changes. The hospital will use this money for an 18,397- square-foot expansion. The hospital's renovation will include new emergency, surgery and laboratory departments as well as an improved main entrance and dining area.
"We've been working on this (loan) for over two years," said Hospital Administrator Frank Wise. "It's been anticipated for a long time, and we're really excited."
Wise said he expects the money to be made available in early to mid December.
"As soon as the funds are released, we will begin work," Wise added.
