The Baptist Student Union/Spiritual Development Scholarship at Arkansas State University Mountain Home was established by an anonymous donor in 1999. Each year the donor names the scholarship in honor of an individual involved in service to the community. Ashley Walsh of Mammoth Spring was recently announced as one of the recipients of the 2007 Baptist Student Union/Spiritual Development Scholarship.
Walsh also was recently announced as the recipient of the 2007 Bank of Salem Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded to students with a 2.75 grade point average on their most recent high school transcript. The scholarship provides $500 per year for a Fulton County high school senior or recent graduate.
Walsh, the daughter of John and April Walsh, is a 2007 graduate of Mammoth Spring High School. She is pursuing a career in physical therapy.
The Bank of Salem was established in 1908. The Twin Lakes Community Foundation (TLCF), an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation, was established in 2002 to serve the philanthropic interest of individuals, organizations and business enterprises throughout Baxter, Fulton, Izard and Marion counties.
The Baptist Student Union/Spiritual Development Scholarship is equal to one-half of the current rate of tuition for ASUMH or a minimum of $852 per academic year. The recipient must be a member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry or actively involved in a local church and must be enrolled in at least nine hours at ASUMH and must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
